C’est un fait : les problématiques actuelles du monde alimentaire sont nombreuses. Certaines associations comme Foodwatch ont donc vu le jour dans un but global de manger mieux, plus sainement et lutter contre les fraudes.
Foodwatch, c’est quoi ?
Foodwatch, c’est tout d’abord une Organisation à But Non Lucratif créée en 2002 en Allemagne par l’ancien président de Green Peace, Thilo Bode.
L’organisation milite pour le droit des consommateurs de se voir proposer des aliments de qualité, sans risques pour la santé et comportant un étiquetage fiable et transparent. Elle collabore avec un grand nombre d’experts : spécialistes alimentaires, médecins, chimistes…
« foodwatch est une organisation à but non lucratif qui se bat pour une alimentation sans risques, saine et abordable pour tous et toutes. Nous faisons entendre la voix des consommateurs∙rices, nous militons pour plus de transparence dans le secteur alimentaire, et défendons notre droit à une alimentation qui ne porte atteinte ni aux personnes, ni à l’environnement. »
En mettant en lumière les pratiques frauduleuses des industries alimentaires ou des lobbies, l’association milite en faveur des droits des consommateurs.

Foodwatch : quel mode d’action ?
Véritable lanceur d’alerte, Foodwatch permet de s’informer et de dévoiler des scandales alimentaires.L’objectif est simple : mobiliser les citoyens via des pétitions à grande échelle sur des sites tels que Change.org pour pouvoir appuyer leurs campagnes auprès des industriels du secteur plus rapidement. Et ça marche !
C’est le cas notamment avec la marque Maggi du groupe Nestlé avec leur soupe bœuf-carottes aux vermicelles, saveur à l’ancienne.
« Avec cette soupe, Nestlé fait référence aux saveurs d’un plat de la tradition culinaire française. Bien que le visuel sur l’emballage présente un généreux morceau de bœuf, le produit n’en contient pas : on y trouve juste 1,1% de jus de cuisson de bœuf. Cette soupe compte plus de fécule, d’arômes artificiels, de sucre et de sel que de viande. Le « Code de la soupe », une réglementation rédigée par l’industrie elle-même, rend de telles pratiques possibles. Foodwatch a demandé des explications à Nestlé. »
Résultat ? Grâce à la mobilisation de plusieurs centaines de personnes, la marque a modifié son packaging : fini le morceau de bœuf appétissant ainsi que la mention « saveur à l’ancienne ».
Foodwatch est donc une association qui permet de redonner le pouvoir au consommateur : défendre ses droits et lutter contre la malbouffe, souvent déguisée derrière une belle approche marketing.
