Charles Scuri, un révolutionnaire de l’art numérique, est décédé le 27 février 2022 après avoir changé le monde de l’art. Il était un informaticien qui a créé le logiciel permettant le graphisme, la dimension visuelle, l’animation par ordinateur, les jeux et l’impression 3D.
Au collège, il était capitaine de l’équipe de football de son université et il étudiait l’informatique. Grâce à ses visions de l’art, il a combiné l’art, la technologie et la science, ce qui a conduit à la création de l’art digital.
Après avoir été mobilisé pendant la première guerre mondiale, il est retourné à l’université pour devenir professeur d’art et a commencé sa carrière de peintre professionnel. En 1963, il commence ses essais d’art numérique et en 1964, il crée sa première animation numérique. Il a créé la première animation numérique appelée « Hummingbird » en 1967 et elle est actuellement exposée au Museum of Modern Art de New York.

Il est ensuite devenu professeur d’informatique à l’O.S.U. dans le domaine du graphisme et de l’animation. Ses étudiants ont ensuite travaillé dans des sociétés de cinéma et d’animation comme Pixar et Disney.
Il a été reconnu comme un pionnier de l’animation par MoMA. Il est le cofondateur de Cranston/Csuri Productions (CCP), l’une des premières entreprises de production d’animation par ordinateur au monde. Il a reçu le prix du gouverneur de l’Ohio et la médaille Sullivant de l’État de l’Ohio, la plus haute distinction de l’institution. Son exposition de 2010, intitulée Beyond Boundaries, a été présentée dans des musées d’Europe et d’Asie.
