C’est l’histoire folle d’une jeune femme qui a réussi à berner la haute société new-yorkaise. Entre 2013 et 2017, elle aurait ainsi escroqué à ses victimes 275.000 dollars. Mais comment a-t-elle réussi ? On l’a représenté comme une ado écervelée, dans les faits, elle a failli réussir à créer son club sélect dans l’un des bâtiments les plus mythiques de la ville : Church Missions House, et elle était considérée comme solvable auprès des banques pour obtenir tous les prêts nécessaires.
Qui est Anna ?
Anna Sorokin, jeune d’origine russe ayant déménagé en Allemagne, a toujours aimé le monde et le luxe. Après un stage en France au magazine « Purple », elle commence à créer son personnage de Delvey. Elle commence à entrer dans les hautes sphères et se fait passer pour une héritière qui malheureusement ne peut pas toucher son héritage, car son père lui a coupé les vivres.
En jouant ce rôle, elle va faire de nombreux chèques sans provision ou va promettre de régler via virement. Étant dans une sphère avec de nombreuses personnes ayant les moyens, elle va souvent leur demander de l’argent, mais lors du remboursement, elle feindra d’oublier, ou ne remboursera pas. Mais pour des personnes ayant l’habitude de grosses sommes, les 3 000 ou 5 000 qu’Anna doit ne seront pas demandés …
Cependant, son mode de vie extrême va lui exploser au visage et elle va se faire arrêter pour fraude et arnaque. En effet, à force de jouer avec le feu et avec une « caste » qui n’apprécient pas de passer pour des idiots, nombreux de soi-disant amis vont se retourner contre elle et commencer à douter de son véritable capital.
Ses dettes sont de plus en plus grosses et de plus en plus d’hôtels et restaurants commencent à porter plainte pour non-paiement. Une situation de non-retour se met en place jusqu’à son arrestation.
Pourquoi est-ce si fascinant ?
Pourquoi une simple histoire d’arnaque fait-elle autant de bruit et à même eu sa propre série Netflix ? Tout simplement, car il est impressionnant qu’une personne « lambda » puisse berner la haute société new-yorkaise, mais aussi de grande banque. Son projet de fondation / club sélect a failli voir le jour et si tout s’était bien passé, personne n’aurait su qu’elle n’avait aucun capital.
Son déterminisme et d’une certaine manière son talent d’oratrice montrent une volonté et un mental de fer. Anna est d’une certaine manière une héroïne qui a su mettre sous sa coupe de nombreuses personnes influentes et cela grâce au bluff du siècle.
