Digital nomad, qu’est-ce que c’est ?

- Autoentrepreneur : dans ce cas, il a une entreprise à gérer, une activité à faire grandir (du commerce en ligne par exemple) et doit même parfois embaucher des employés. C’est un statut plus difficile à gérer que le précédent mais très apprécié.
- Salarié en télétravail : choisir ce statut c’est opter pour une manière de faire plus « traditionnelle » puisqu’il s’agit d’être employé par une entreprise tout en étant autorisé à travailler à distance
Maintenant que le principe est clair, voyons de plus près tout ce que cela implique d’être un digital nomad.
Un mode de vie qui a des avantages …
Malgré les différences que leur procurent ces différents statuts, ils ont tous choisi de devenir digital nomads pour des raisons relativement similaires.
Plus de liberté
Par liberté, il est question bien sûr de liberté géographique mais pas seulement … Depuis quelques années, la vision du travail change, on cherche à donner du sens à son activité et à se l’approprier pleinement, à travailler à sa manière. Et c’est bien connu : on travaille mieux dans un environnement où l’on se sent bien, qui stimule notre créativité, souvent bridée par la routine de la vie en bureau. Choisir le lieu où l’on veut travailler c’est aussi s’épargner de longs trajets en transports en communs et gagner du temps par la même occasion. Adopter le mode de vie d’un digital nomad permet donc non seulement de pouvoir se déplacer librement mais aussi d’effectuer son travail de façon plus libérée et créative.
Cette liberté permet également de mieux gérer son temps et apprendre à équilibrer vie personnelle et vie professionnelle. On n’est plus dans une logique de travail acharné à n’en plus compter les heures : on souhaite avoir du temps pour soi, ce que peuvent se permettre les digital nomads.
Découvrir le monde
Autre avantage, et non des moindres, si vous aimez voyager ou souhaitez découvrir le monde, être digital nomad peut vous aider à vivre (de) votre passion du voyage : la contrainte « bureau » étant désormais supprimée, vous pourrez travailler et voyager sans que cela ne vous freine dans votre travail. Vous aurez également la possibilité de partir en vacances au soleil dès lors que vous en ressentez le besoin. De plus, en vivant dans des pays où le coût de la vie est peu élevé, vivre aisément n’est pas difficile.
En résumé, le digital nomad n’a de comptes à rendre à personne et peut agir en toute liberté, selon ses envies mais il fait également face à de nombreuses difficultés …
… Et des inconvénients
Jusque-là, vous êtes sûrement en train de rêver de votre future vie sous les tropiques mais n’oubliez pas que, comme pour toutes choses, la vie d’un digital nomad présente quelques aspects moins attrayants.
Des contraintes horaires et financières
Faire le choix de travailler à son compte tout en étant nomade, c’est tout d’abord accepter de travailler sans horaires fixes. Cela implique que vous devrez sûrement travailler plus qu’il n’en faut dans une journée et sacrifier vos week-ends pour finir un projet avant sa deadline … Dans le même temps, vous dépendrez de votre matériel et, plus globalement, de votre connexion internet : vous n’aurez pas accès au wi-fi partout où vous irez et, même si vous y parvenez, il se peut que celui-ci soit utilisé par d’autres personnes et vous empêche d’envoyer vos emails car trop lent.

Les digital nomads s’exposent également à des problèmes d’ordre financiers : le choix de la liberté de mouvement et de travailler à son compte implique des revenus moins élevés, forcément, mais aussi moins fréquents, entrainant ainsi une insécurité financière. C’est un problème que ne rencontrent pas les salariés en télétravail qui bénéficient d’une certaine stabilité sur ce point-là.
Faire face à la solitude
Enfin, ce mode de vie expose à une solitude parfois difficilement supportée et demande une forte discipline. C’est d’ailleurs pour cette raison que beaucoup de digital nomads choisissent de se rendre dans des cafés ou optent pour les espaces de co-working, où ils peuvent rencontrer d’autres travailleurs indépendants et se plier à des règles plus précises.
Malgré tous ces inconvénients, qu’il est important de prendre en compte, il s’agit d’une expérience très enrichissante à vivre et très peu de digital nomads regrettent leur choix.
