Le monde de la mode connaît un véritable séisme depuis l’annonce de la disparition du directeur artistique des collections homme de Louis Vuitton et créateur de la célèbre marque « Off-White »
Véritable génie de la mode, il a su s’imposer dans un milieu où les places coûtent cher pour défendre ses idées.
Retour sur la carrière de cet homme qui a su créer le luxe du début du 21ième siècle, alliant créativité, élégance et un style sportif.
Qui est Virgil Abloh ?
Né le 30 septembre 1980 aux Etats-Unis, à Rockford (Illinois), ce fils d’immigrés ghanéens était diplômé en génie civil de l’université du Wisconsin.
Mais c’est dans le domaine artistique qu’il a décidé de commencer sa carrière auprès du célèbre rappeur Kanye West conseillant celui-ci notamment sur ses pochettes de disques et les scénographies de ses concerts.
C’est en 2013, avec le lancement d’Off White qu’il décroche son ticket d’entrée dans le monde de la mode. 5 ans plus tard il devient designer des créations masculines de Louis Vuitton. Mais son ascension ne s’arrête pas là, emblème du luxe « streetwear », il n’a eu de cesse de multiplier les collaborations avec des marques issues d’univers divers et variés à l’image d’Ikea, Nike, Rimowa, Mercedes-Benz ou encore Evian.
Une vague d’hommages rendus par les célébrités
Très proche avec de nombreuses célébrités, celles-ci ont tenu à lui rendre hommage, notamment sur les réseaux sociaux, ou des stars comme Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid ont exprimé leurs peines. Mais aussi en France avec Omar Sy, Kilian Mbappé et de nombreux anonymes pour montrer leur profonde tristesse face à la disparition de cet icône de la mode.
