Aujourd’hui avoir un ordinateur performant pour faire tourner de gros logiciels ou les jeux les plus puissants représente un réel investissement. Cela représente aussi de l’encombrement puisque le matériel est parfois assez volumineux.
Un autre problème se pose, vu la vitesse à laquelle évoluent les technologies en combien de temps mon matériel va-t-il être obsolète ? Faut-il vraiment investir des sommes importantes pour recommencer tout les 3 ans en moyenne ? (Si vous voulez rester au top)
Autant de questions auxquelles Shadow a décidé de répondre en vous proposant un son nouveau concept : Le PC à télécharger.
Le concept :
Shadow a développé un système appelé le cloud computing. Si vous disposez juste d’un écran ou de votre vieil ordinateur qui a du mal à ouvrir Adibou (meilleur jeu de tout les temps), aucun problème il vous suffit de télécharger l’application mise à disposition par l’entreprise pour bénéficier des performances de PC à la pointe de la technologie.
Pour faire simple ce qui apparaîtra chez vous ne sera que la diffusion de ce qui se passe sur un PC dont vous ignorez l’emplacement (et cela vous est bien égal à vrai dire). Grâce au système de cloud vous allez pouvoir diffuser sur votre écran ce qui se passe sur votre ordinateur surpuissant et dématérialisé mis à disposition par Shadow.
Cet ordinateur dématérialisé signifie donc que peu importe où vous vous trouvez vous pouvez avoir accès à l’intégralité de votre ordinateur, un cloud géant en quelque sorte.
Une seule contrainte : votre débit internet. Si vous voulez avoir une bonne expérience en utilisant ce logiciel il vous faudra disposer au minimum de 15Mo/s pour jouer et 5Mo/s pour des travaux de bureautique.
Pour la façon d’obtenir ce service rien de plus simple, si vous avez déjà un PC ou un Mac il vous suffira de télécharger l’application qui est disponible depuis le début d’année.
Si vous avez juste un écran la start-up propose la shadow-box d’une valeur de 120€ qui vous servira d’interface entre leurs serveurs et votre appareil.
Le développement :
Lors des tests de la version bêta de ce produit tout s’est déroulé de manière très satisfaisante avec très peu de bugs importants ou des problèmes mineurs. Sauf que sur cette version bêta le nombre de testeur était très réduit… Lors du lancement à plus grande échelle du produit la start-up s’est très vite rendu compte que les moyens mis en œuvre, notamment au niveau de la capacité de stockage n’étaient pas suffisants. En effet si les performances pour un nombre restreints d’utilisateurs étaient irréprochables il s’avère que lors d’une utilisation de masse et notamment aux heures d’affluence (entre 20h et minuit) le service était lent voire défaillant et la promesse d’un PC aux meilleures performances était loin d’être tenue.
Heureusement la réaction de Shadow fût instantanée e ils ont commencé à étudier les solutions qui pourraient satisfaire les clients. Aujourd’hui le service proposé est correct, même si l’on n’est pas encore dans l’instantanéité. N’oublions pas que la start-up est toute récente sur le marché et qu’elle est encore en développement. Shadow a toutes les clés en main pour qu’à terme ce service atteigne les performances qui nous ont été promises.
Il arrive aussi que malgré une bonne connexion du client le service soit très lent, ce problème n’est que temporaire et tend à être réglé.
Enfin dernier petit soucis, l’application mise à disposition sur Mac rencontre régulièrement des problèmes de fonctionnalités notamment si vous voulez diffuser votre contenu en même temps que vous travaillez ou que vous jouez par exemple.
Vous l’aurez compris cette start-up ne nous propose pas un projet totalement abouti, cependant Shadow a tout pour être un produit extrêmement prometteur et a l’avantage d’être le pionnier sur le marché. En effet d’autres marques comme Nvidia, Androïd ou encore Google se sont lancées sur ce marché en proposant notamment du cloud gaming (même service que Shadow mais seulement pour les jeux vidéo), cependant ils ne sont pas aussi performants et propose un service restreint par rapport à notre start-up française
Comme vous vous en doutez un service comme celui-ci n’est pas gratuit et propose différents tarifs mensuels en fonction de votre durée d’engagement :
- 44.95 € : Sans engagement
- 34.95 € : engagement de trois mois
- 29.95 € : engagement d’un an
- A venir : 5 € pour 5 jours (Version d’essai)
Un abonnement spécial Noël est disponible pour 30 €par mois sans abonnement !
Vous allez me demander si c’est rentable … Je ne peux pas vous répondre par une affirmation catégorique mais si l’on considère que Shadow nous propose des PC d’une valeur de 1400 €, la formule est rentable à partir de 30 € d’abonnement. Bien évidemment si vous n’utilisez pas le PC à son plein potentiel ce n’est peut-être pas la bonne solution.
Ordinateur du futur ou projet un peu trop ambitieux, je vous laisse vous faire votre propre avis sur la question !
