Fin mars : les fêtes de Pâques approchent, les gens se ruent sur le chocolat, les vitrines des chocolatiers affichent leurs plus beaux œufs en chocolat. Il est donc intéressant de revenir sur cette ancienne tradition religieuse. En effet, à l’origine Pâques repose sur une tradition chrétienne commémorant la renaissance de Jésus Christ.
Alors que cette dernière arrive à grand pas, quel est le lien entre ce dernier et les œufs, lapins, cloches en chocolat que l’on savoure durant cette période ? Et surtout, est-il vraiment bon pour la santé ?
Pour rappel, Pâques marque la fin du carême pour les Chrétiens : une période de privation au cours de laquelle il était interdit de consommer les œufs pondus. Pour célébrer la fin du carême, les Chrétiens s’offraient donc à l’origine les œufs pondus durant cette période, ces derniers étaient bénis et peints. D’ailleurs, dès l’Antiquité, les Perses s’offraient non pas des œufs en chocolat, mais bien des œufs de poule, symboles de renouveau du monde, de vie et de fin des jours hivernaux.
C’est au 19ème siècle que les marchands alsaciens/allemands et les chocolatiers décidèrent de remplacer cette tradition des œufs de poule par des œufs en chocolat. On doit l’avouer, cela nous arrange bien !
Et sinon, pour la santé ?
Antidépressif naturel, les Français sont les 6ème plus gros mangeurs de chocolat dans le monde avec une consommation moyenne de 7,3kg par an. S’il est bon pour le moral, est-il bon pour la santé ?
Moral : Le chocolat contient des endorphines, lui donnant la propriété d’être bon pour le moral. En contenant des flavonoïdes, qui stimulent la fabrication d’acide nitrique, le chocolat favorise une bonne circulation sanguine et diminue la tension artérielle et donc le stress.
Concentration et mémorisation : Il contient de la théanine, un acide aminé connu pour son rôle dans la relaxation et l’attention, le chocolat favorise aussi la concentration. Les flavonols, également présents dans le cacao, augmentent l’afflux de sang dans le cerveau et accentuent nos capacités de mémorisation. Ces derniers favoriseraient même la croissance des bactéries intestinales bénéfiques à notre santé et joueraient donc un rôle dans le transit.
Prévention : De plus, grâce à sa teneur très riche en polyphénols, le chocolat a un pouvoir antioxydant exceptionnel. En effet, le cacao a une activité antioxydante importante et joue ainsi un rôle dans la prévention des maladies cardio-vasculaires (vasodilate les vaisseaux, effet anti-inflammatoire et empêche les plaquettes de s’agréger), neurodégénératives ou encore du cancer. Ainsi, plus le chocolat possède une teneur en cacao élevée, plus ses propriétés antioxydantes sont élevées. C’est donc dans le chocolat noir que l’on retrouve le plus d’antioxydants. Un seul carré de chocolat noir à 70% de cacao contient deux fois plus de polyphénols qu’un verre de vin rouge.
Le chocolat est aussi très riche en magnésium grâce à sa teneur en cacao. Les déficits en magnésium sont relativement fréquents : près de 75% de la population adulte aurait des apports insuffisants en magnésium. Ces déficits peuvent être à l’origine de fatigue, de troubles du sommeil et d’irritabilité.
Par ailleurs, la présence de sucre, le chocolat permet aussi d’optimiser l’action de la sérotonine qui est un neurotransmetteur et joue ainsi un rôle primordial sur l’humeur. Le chocolat, en plus d’être bon pour le moral, favorise aussi l’apaisement et le bien-être. Le cacao peut également jouer un rôle de régulateur de l’humeur grâce à la présence d’une molécule spécifique : la théobromine.
Cependant, attention : le chocolat reste un aliment gras et calorique. Limitez donc votre consommation à deux ou trois carrés de chocolat noir à 70% de cacao par jour : cela suffit pour bénéficier de tous ses bienfaits. Et si vous n’aimez pas le chocolat, vous pouvez toujours vous rabattre sur le thé vert, qui contient lui aussi beaucoup d’antioxydants.
