Briseurs de confiance en soi, risque de publicité mensongère… l’Autorité des normes de publicité (ASA) a donc pris la décision de les interdire aux influenceurs, lorsqu’ils réalisent des campagnes de publicité en rapport avec la beauté.
La frénésie destructrice des filtres Instagram
Instagram, Tiktok, Snapchat… le choix de filtres destinés à nous « embellir » ne manque pas ! On parle aujourd’hui du phénomène « visage Instagram » : on veut des lèvres pulpeuses et des pommettes hautes et sculptées, à l’image de Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid ou Ariana Grande. Alors tout le monde s’y met, et parfois on oublie que ce n’est pas la réalité.
A force de banaliser et normaliser l’usage de filtres, certains utilisateurs sont victimes du phénomène que l’on appelle la « dysmorphie de Snapchat ». Une étude de l’Université de Boston a révélé que de plus en plus d’adolescents souhaiteraient recourir à la chirurgie esthétique pour se rapprocher de leur apparence sur leurs photos retouchées par des filtres Instagram ou Snapchat.
Par ailleurs, une étude menée par association britannique à but non lucratif Girlguiding s’était intéressée à l’impact des filtres sur les jeunes filles. Résultat : sur 1473 participantes âgées de 11 à 21 ans, 39% disaient regretter ne pas avoir la même apparence dans la vraie vie que sur internet. Un tiers d’entre elles assurait également ne jamais publier un selfie au naturel, sans avoir recours aux filtres pour embellir leur apparence.
Des mouvements « anti-filtres » se lèvent
Alors pour sortir de ce cercle vicieux qu’engendre l’utilisation des filtres, certains influenceurs n’hésitent pas à se montrer au naturel. Une tendance largement portée par le mouvement « Body Positive », qui prône l’acceptation de soi plutôt que l’usage intempestif des filtres sur les réseaux sociaux.
Les réseaux sociaux prennent également part à ce mouvement. En 2019, c’est Instagram qui s’est débarrassé de son propre filtre effet « chirurgie esthétique » afin d’améliorer le bien-être de ses utilisateurs.
Mais la prise de conscience des autorités s’est faite à la suite du hashtag #Filterdrop, lancé par la make-up artist et modèle photo birtanique Sasha Louise Pallari. Fatiguée de voir des filtres beauté sur tous les visages, elle a déclaré sur instagram « Il est normal de ne pas avoir de maquillage sur les réseaux, […] il est normal d’apparaitre sans filtre sur les réseaux. Mais il n’est pas normal de tromper son audience et lui faire dépenser de l’argent dans des produits de beauté ».
C’est à cette utilisation abusive que la campagne #Filterdrop s’est attaquée en juillet dernier. Initiative invitant les utilisateurs et utilisatrices du réseau social à partager des selfies au naturel, de nombreuses personnalités et anonymes ont ainsi dévoilé leurs visages sans utiliser de filtres.
Des mesures restrictives tombent
Le succès du #Filterdrop a été si explosif qu’il a finalement fait plier l’ASA, Advertising Standards Authority (l’organisme d’autorégulation de l’industrie de la publicité) au Royaume-Uni, qui a ainsi interdit l’usage des « filtres trompeurs » pour toute annonce commerciale sur Instagram ! Cette nouvelle régulation concernera tous les influenceurs faisant la promotion d’un produit de beauté utilisant un filtre améliorant l’aspect du visage. Une mesure qui a été prise également en Espagne, mais pas encore pour la France, bien que ça ne saurait tarder.
Un coup de massue pour tous les influenceurs adeptes de l’utilisation des filtres ! Ils ne feront donc plus partie de leur quotidien professionnel (seulement) car leur usage dans la sphère privée reste évidemment autorisé. Cette interdiction des filtres intervient en effet uniquement dans un objectif commercial, afin de promouvoir une publicité saine, véridique et loyale ainsi qu’une communication responsable envers de possibles acheteurs.
On est donc encore loin de la fin de l’omniprésence des filtres et de leurs effets dévastateurs sur la confiance en soi des utilisateurs des réseaux sociaux.
