Nettoie ton kilomètre, qu’est-ce que c’est exactement ?
L’histoire commence le 1er novembre 2020, sur le compte Instagram de @ben_expedition_zero. Benjamin de Molliens de son vrai nom, est un éco-aventurier sportif et engagé, spécialiste des challenges écologiques et sportifs. Le dernier en date ? Faire le trajet Toulouse-Sète en paddle, le tout en produisant 0 déchet, en achetant 0 matériel neuf et en ayant 0 impact carbone. Alors vous imaginez bien que le confinement n’allait pas l’arrêter dans ses projets écolos.
C’est pendant son heure de sortie quotidienne que Benjamin a eu une idée : adapter le plogging – une pratique suédoise qui consiste à ramasser les déchets que l’on croise sur son parcours lorsque l’on court – pour agir tout en respectant les mesures sanitaires. Il décide alors de nettoyer le kilomètre autour de chez lui à chacune de ses sorties et de défier ses amis pour qu’ils en fassent de même. L’objectif : ramasser le plus de déchets possibles en une heure, tout en respectant le périmètre d’un kilomètre imposé pendant le confinement. L’hashtag #nettoietonkm voit alors le jour.

Mais pourquoi ça marche si bien ?
Quelques posts sur Facebook et Instagram, une vidéo sur TikTok, et un slam sur SoundCloud plus tard, le défi est devenu viral. En seulement quelques jours, plusieurs centaines de personnes ont partagé des photos de leur « cueillette » sur les réseaux sociaux. Influenceurs, acteurs engagés dans l’environnement, mais aussi personnes lambdas, jeunes, vieux, sportifs, flemmards … Aujourd’hui, les participations à ce challenge écolo se comptent par milliers ! Au-delà des réseaux sociaux, l’initiative a été relayée par de nombreux médias, participant ainsi à sa notoriété auprès d’un public toujours plus large.
Dans une interview donnée à 20 Minutes, Benjamin de Molliens explique : « L’idée est de ne pas culpabiliser le citoyen, mais de le pousser à se saisir de certains sujets pour changer les mentalités. »
Et l’objectif semble atteint car pour beaucoup de participants, le défi Nettoie ton kilomètre est une manière ludique et facile d’agir pour l’environnement, à son niveau. Pas besoin d’organisation, un sac poubelle et une paire de gants suffisent pour se lancer dans l’aventure. Le défi, souvent réalisé en famille, permet une prise de conscience tout en ayant impact positif sur l’environnement. Et le challenge semble porter ses fruits puisque de nombreux participants ont fait part de leur surprise quant à la quantité de déchets qu’ils ont pu ramasser en si peu de temps.
Une initiative qui donne des idées
Un défi repris dans la France entière
Partout en France, l’hashtag #nettoietonnkm est repris, inspirant même certaines associations, organisations et mairies.
En Gironde par exemple, la mairie de Lignan-de-Bordeaux a invité les habitants de la commune à participer à l’opération « Un kilomètre, une heure, un sac ». Pour le maire de la ville, ce défi, en plus d’avoir un impact positif sur l’environnement, permet de recréer une dynamique sociale, souvent perdue pendant le confinement.
A Angers, c’est l’association Clean les Amis de la Propreté qui encourage les angevins à participer au défi, à l’occasion de la semaine européenne de réduction des déchets.
D’autres associations comme Eaux et Rivières de Bretagne ou CetaSea se sont également emparées du challenge pour récupérer les déchets avant qu’ils ne terminent leur course dans les cours d’eau, mers et océans. Et l’on pourrait citer encore de nombreux exemples d’associations ou de villes qui proposent des challenges de ce type pour pousser les citoyens à l’action.
Des initiatives qui dépassent le kilomètre
Certains n’ont pas attendu l’hashtag pour agir. C’est le cas par exemple de Frederic Munsch et Edmund Platt : le duo a décidé de traverser la France à pied pour ramasser les masques chirurgicaux abandonnés sur le trajet Marseille-Paris.
Leur Marche contre les déchets a pour but de sensibiliser les français à l’utilisation des masques réutilisables. Leur objectif final ? Faire que la problématique des plastiques à usage unique, comme les masques jetables, soit traitée comme une grande cause nationale. Et quand on constate qu’en un mois et demi ils ont ramassé plus de 3500 masques, on ne peut qu’espérer qu’ils soient entendus !
Florian Danielo a lui aussi décidé de dépasser le kilomètre pour s’attaquer aux masques. Ce breton s’est lancé dans un tour de France à vélo et a récupéré plus de 400 masques sur le bord des routes en à peine un mois. Et son périple est loin d’être terminé ! A l’issu de cette aventure, le cycliste pense qu’il aura ramassé près de 150kg de masques chirurgicaux … Sachant qu’un masque pèse environ 5g, on vous laisse faire le calcul …
Covid-19 : un virus pour la santé mais aussi pour l’environnement
Oui le coronavirus menace notre santé … Mais il menace aussi celle de la Terre. La lutte contre le virus entraine la production de tonnes de déchets plastiques, souvent difficiles à recycler : les masques, les plexiglass, les bouteilles d’eau … Malgré les initiatives pour organiser la collecte et le recyclage des masques, les solutions concrètes et viables sont inexistantes. A ce jour, il est impossible de prendre en charge l’ensemble des déchets produits sur le territoire. Les chiffres parlent d’eux-mêmes :
- Si l’on compte que chaque français porte 2 ou 3 masques par jour, on obtient 300 000 tonnes de déchets plastiques supplémentaires par an,
- Les « fuites » de masques dans la nature sont estimées à 5% en France, soit 15 000 tonnes par an,
- Un masque chirurgical met environ 450 ans à se dégrader dans la nature.
L’urgence environnementale est alors très claire et on voit encore une fois l’importance d’agir rapidement.
Quelques pistes pour agir facilement
Face à cette urgence écologique, il est essentiel que chacun de nous agisse à son niveau. Sans aller jusqu’à parcourir des centaines des kilomètres, à pied ou à vélo, voici quelques conseils pour limiter l’impact du virus sur l’environnement :
- Privilégier les masques réutilisables, qui ont l’avantage d’être plus économiques et écologiques que les masques chirurgicaux,
- Préférer les gourdes, les contenants réutilisables et favoriser les emballages recyclables si l’on ne peut pas faire autrement,
- Participer au challenge « Nettoie ton kilomètre » et défier ses proches pour que cette belle initiative continue au-delà du confinement !
