Les français et le bio, une histoire d’amour partie pour durer. C’est en tout cas ce que semble démontrer la nouvelle étude faite par l’Agence Bio en cette fin d’année 2020 et publiée ce vendredi 19 Mars.
Le baromètre annuel de l’agence annonce 15% de nouveaux consommateurs (au moins une fois par mois depuis moins d’un an) en France l’an dernier. Malgré la crise sanitaire les produits bio ont su continuer de séduire les français.
D’après Laure Verdeau, nouvelle directrice de ce groupement d’intérêt public qui travaille au développement de l’agriculture bio dans l’Hexagone: «Le bio est en croissance année après année» et la tendance «n’a pas fléchi» avec le Covid-19. «Et la famille s’étoffe», se réjouit-elle. En effet, 21% des nouveaux consommateurs bio sont les jeunes de 18/24 ans. De plus en plus soucieux de la planète, ces derniers cherchent à mieux consommer. Mais ils sont loin d’être les seuls.
En 2020, 9 Français sur 10 ont consommé du bio.
La crise du covid et les confinements ont poussé les français a essayé de consommer de façon locale et responsable. Bien souvent, le bio répond à ses attentes. 9 Français sur 10 ont donc consommé au moins une fois dans l’année en 2020 et 6 personnes sur 10 déclarent l’avoir également son comportement alimentaire pendant la crise sanitaire. Les confinements ont aussi incité les français à cuisiner davantage en faisant plus attention à ce qui aller finir dans leur assiette qu’auparavant.
Parmi les 9 français, 73% ont consommé bio au moins une fois par mois et 13% tous les jours.
Quelles sont les motivations et freins des français à manger bio?
Pour 61% des consommateurs de produits bio, la première motivation est la santé. S’en suit ensuite l’environnement et des raisons éthiques et sociales (rémunération des agriculteurs par exemple) pour 48% et 38% respectivement.
Malgré tout, le premier frein pour les consommateurs français reste le prix. En effet, les produits agricoles bio restent plus chers pour les consommateurs, « souvent de 30% à 40% », notamment en raison de coûts de production plus élevés.
Cependant cela commence à devenir petit à petit un frein de moins en moins notable. A titre d’exemple, en 2019 ils étaient 77% à acheter leurs produits bio en grandes surfaces. Il ne sont aujourd’hui plus que 74%, privilégiant doucement mais sûrement les achats directs à la ferme (de 20% à 26% en l’espace d’un an).
Les distributeurs spécialisés Biocoop et Naturalia confirment la tendance. Elles ont annoncé cette semaine des chiffres d’affaires en hausse en 2020. Un « léger effet Covid » selon Pierrick de Ronne, président de Biocoop.
Biocoop, qui compte 700 magasins en France, a réalisé 1,62 milliard d’euros de ventes l’an passé (+16,6%), une croissance « supérieure à celle du marché » et plus forte qu’en 2019 (+14,8%).
Chez Naturalia (groupe Casino), le chiffre d’affaires sous enseigne a progressé de 22,4% en 2020, à 395 millions d’euros. L’enseigne comptait 219 magasins au 31 décembre.
Le dynamisme des ventes de bio semble avoir été un peu moindre dans les grandes et moyennes surfaces (GMS): « le chiffre d’affaires du bio a continué de croître en 2020, de 14% », indique à l’AFP Emmanuel Fournet, Directeur services Clients chez Nielsen IQ.
La démocratisation des produits bio
20% des nouveaux consommateurs bio sont issus de la classe ouvrière et employés. « ce qui montre que le bio se démocratise », selon Philippe Henry, président de l’Agence Bio. Une bone nouvelle pour l’agriculture biologique!
Quid de 2021 ?
L’année 2021 s’annonce être également une très bonne année pour les producteurs bio, les français ne comptant pas revenir à une consommation plus industrielle. Ce sont 80% des français qui déclarent vouloir manger bio cette année. Et 11% qui comptent même augmenter leur consommation.
