Bijoux, vêtements, livres, jeux vidéo, et même voitures, l’achat d’occasion a su se faire une place dans les pratiques des Français. D’après une étude Sofinco, ils sont meme plus d’un sur deux à avoir acheté d’occasion en 2022, un chiffre en constante augmentation.
Mais pourquoi donc un tel engouement ?
L’aspect écologique des achats de seconde main est évidemment un aspect attractif pour les consommateurs. Mais dans ce contexte d’inflation, l’attractivité économique que représentent les objets d’occasion est plus que jamais un atout. Certains articles présentent même un prix inférieur à 80% du prix neuf.
Cependant, les articles de sport furent pendant longtemps mis de côté sur ce marché de la seconde main. Pourtant, les équipements sportifs ont un véritable impact écologique. Par exemple, d’après Campsider, 16 % de l’empreinte carbone d’une journée de ski est due à l’équipement et environ 250 millions d’équipement sportifs sont vendus tous les ans en Europe, mais à peine 1% sont issus de l’économie circulaire.
Cette plus lente adoption de la seconde main dans le sport s’explique par plusieurs facteurs. Il y a tout d’abord l’aspect propreté. Comme sur d’autres marchés, les consommateurs peuvent être réticents à l’idée de porter des vêtements déjà utilisés. En particulier, car les activités sportives sont souvent synonymes de transpiration. Mais un autre frein important est celui de la sécurité. Les équipements sportifs, pour la plupart, sont la pour assurer la sécurité de leurs utilisateurs. Les articles neufs sont donc perçus comme plus rassurants et plus normés pour beaucoup de consommateurs.
Le boom d’après Covid
Mais cette transformation fut largement accélérée par le covid. En effet, les confinements successifs, durant lesquels les Français ont été privés de leur liberté, ont engendré une appétence croissante pour les activités en extérieur. L’introduction en 2022 de la loi anti-gaspillage a également été un coup de puce supplémentaire.

C’est le cas par exemple de Campsider, Sporteed ou encore Barooders qui proposent des articles sportifs de seconde main plus ou moins spécialisés. En comparaison à des acteurs généralistes comme Vinted, Le Bon Coin ou Ebay, ces spécialistes bénéficient d’une plus grande crédibilité grâce à des contrôles plus poussés sur les équipements vendus et une véritable expertise.
Les acteurs traditionnels commencent eux aussi à prendre ce virage. Chez Decathlon par exemple, il est possible de vendre ou d’acheter des produits de seconde main toute l’année en magasin ou en ligne.
Ainsi, le neuf ne va pas disparaître, mais on peut espérer une place grandissante de la seconde main dans le secteur du sport.
