L’Atelier Tuffery a vu le jour en 1892 à Florac en Lozère par Célestin Tuffery, le pionnier du jean français. La volonté de l’Atelier est de proposer des produits de qualité confectionnés à partir de matières premières issues des alentours. La durabilité et les circuits courts sont des critères très importants pour l’entreprise. Elle a trouvé des alternatives durables de fibres naturelles telles que le chanvre d’Occitanie, la laine des Cévennes, le coton européen et a limité l’élasthanne afin de s’inscrire dans une démarche toujours plus responsable et engagée. Cela lui permet d’offrir le meilleur à ses clients et surtout des articles confectionnés en France à partir de matériaux français. Du 100% made in France !
Outre l’aspect national, la société souhaite diminuer son impact sur l’environnement. Cela passe tout d’abord par une fabrication responsable avec le choix de proposer des couleurs naturelles et des jeans bruts ne nécessitant pas d’apports néfastes et polluant. La réduction d’eau est également prise en compte avec, comme le souligne le site de l’entreprise, « des toiles faisant partie des programmes environnementaux les plus stricts de leurs fournisseurs comme le « less water impact ». ». Pour finir, la politique de la société est de produire peu mais de qualité afin d’éviter la surproduction. Ainsi, les productions se basent surtout sur la demande, donc en flux tendus. Les déchets sont également limités puisqu’ils représentent moins de 1% de la fabrication totale de l’entreprise : les articles ayant des défauts de fabrication sont offerts à leurs meilleurs clients et les matières premières sont commandées en flux tendus.
