Fortnite est un jeu en ligne développé par Epic Games composé de deux modes de jeux, un mode coopératif et un mode Battle Royale. Fortnite Battle Royal et ses 150 millions de joueurs
L’avantage d’un jeu gratuit, c’est que par définition il est accessible à tout le monde (waow). C’est déjà un bon point quand on veut attirer du monde. Rajoutez à ça la disponibilité sur toutes les plateformes (pc, consoles, smartphone) et vous vous retrouvez avec un jeu au 150 millions de joueurs. Epic Games révèlera même que c’est presque 79 millions de joueurs différents qui se seraient connectés pour le seul mois d’août 2018. En terme d’audience, on peut aussi relever que c’est près de 9 millions de joueurs qui se connectent simultanément pour jouer au jeu. Ainsi, le temps d’attente pour trouver une partie ne dépasse jamais les 15 secondes, augmentant le plaisir de jeu. A titre de comparaison FIFA 18 s’est écoulé à 24 millions d’exemplaires.

Le jeu embarque un système de micro-paiements permettant de faire l’acquisition de V-Bucks, la monnaie virtuelle du jeu, servant à acheter des objets cosmétiques et le Passe de Combat à chaque nouvelle saison. Ainsi les joueurs peuvent acheter des skins qui n’influent en rien sur leur niveau de jeu, parce que après tout, c’est quand même plus fun et c’est toujours mieux que de dépenser ça chez McDo. Puis le jeu est fun tout simplement, même si t’es nul tu t’amuses. Pas besoin de savoir construire un HLM sur le jeu pour rigoler. Dans les rangs français on compte FUCK SOLARY et son équipe de streamers, Gotaga ou encore Kamel et la KametoCorp (absolument jamais mais on soutient). Ces influenceurs créent du contenu sur le jeu pour leur communauté, que ce soit sur Twitch ou Youtube, et participent au rayonnement et à la popularité du jeu.
