Pour rappel, The Pokémon Company avait aussi diffusé un spot publicitaire lors du Super Bowl en 2016 pour l’application Pokémon GO qui avait été un succès. Ils ont donc décidé de reproduire ce schéma, qui avait fonctionné, mais qui était coûteux (4,8 millions de dollars en 2016 pour Pokémon GO)
Le coût en valait la chandelle puisque la Nintendo Switch est un succès avec plus de 176 millions de consoles vendues dans le monde en dépassant même le nombre vendu de 3DS. Il s’agit de la cinquième console la plus vendue après la Nintendo DS (154 millions de ventes), la Game Boy (118,7 millions), la Nintendo Wii (101,6 millions) et la Game boy advance (81,5 millions d’unités écoulées).
Le confinement qui a boosté les ventes de Nintendo
Grâce à la période du confinement, le nombre de consoles vendues a augmenté de 43 %. Ceci a notamment été aidé avec le jeu Animal Crossing : New Horizon qui s’est vendu à 31 millions d’exemplaires depuis son lancement en mars dernier. La console était même devenu un élément rare avec la fermeture des magasins et le prix de leur vente entre particulier grimpait à plus de 800 euros, ce qui représente le double du prix.
En février et mars 2020, Nintendo a dominé le marché de la publicité télévisé dans son secteur : 94,8 % de part occupée sur le marché de la publicité télévisée dans le domaine des jeux vidéo.
